Through OGX, the EBX Group supports the Police Pacifying Units (“UPP”s), in accordance with the agreement signed with the Government of the State of Rio de Janeiro in August 2010. Donations will be made for a period of two years and may be renewed for two more, according to the demands of the State Security Bureau as regards purchasing equipment, infrastructure work and the logistics of the UPPs. The units are being installed in the underprivileged communities of Rio de Janeiro with the purpose of eliminating the drug-trade in those areas and bringing peace to them.

Through the EBX Institute, OGX supports the social and emotional development of children and teenagers from public schools in Rio de Janeiro by providing support for the SKF Brazil Institute (Success for Kids). SFK offers a supplementary education program that helps young people to reflect on citizenship issues and develop skills to deal with day to day situations in a mature and thoughtful manner. In 2011, approximately 1,500 children will go through the program. The investment will be made through an equity fund and the profits will be passed on to the Institute as and when it meets the goals established in the strategic plan. More than 60 thousand children and adolescents worldwide have already been helped by SFK.

 

Through the EBX Institute OGX supports the Morhan Project (Movement to Reintegrate Sufferers of Leprosy), which has been running for nearly 30 years in Brazil working towards eliminating leprosy, eliminating prejudice and increasing the level of  social inclusion of people with the disease. Brazil ranks second in the world in the prevalence of leprosy and suffers from a lack of public policies to control it. The movement will invest in educational campaigns, cultural projects, building work in hospitals, purchasing equipment and the setting up of an itinerant practice to improve diagnosis of the disease in the State of Rio de Janeiro. Morhan’s aim is to educate society about the importance of treatment, in addition to contributing to the erradication of the disease in Brazil.

 

OGX supports, in conjunction with MPX and Petra energy, this initiative which aims to contribute to building a planned future for the municipalities that surround their activities in the region. The plan encourages dialogue between members of civil society, private initiative and public authorities, in order to better understand local realities. Together, they will define priorities, possible investments and points regarded as vulnerable for the region, in order to create an action plan. Each part of society will be responsible for an initiative and the success of the plan will depend on the commitment of all the members of the community involved. The main objective is to promote the development of the municipalities with a balance between economic growth and creation of social benefits, while respecting the environment and local culture.
