Environmental Monitoring Project

OGX monitors possible environmental changes in its area of influence in the Campos and Santos Basins, in addition to conducting campaigns before, during and after its activities to evaluate the environmental quality of these areas.

Monitoring of Water and Sediment

Monitors environmental conditions before and after our activities both in the Campos and Santos Basins. Oceanographic campaigns are carried out with a research vessel for collection and subsequent analysis of data for the water, sediment and biota. In the exploratory activities in the Parnaíba Basin, OGX monitors the water and soil quality in the vicinity of the operation locations before and after the drilling of wells.

Sub-project for monitoring disposal of vertical cuttings and drilling fluid
All the cuttings and drilling fluid discarded at sea is recorded and samples of the fluids are tested in a specialized laboratory, adhering strictly to IBAMA specifications.

Project for Monitoring Fishing Catches

This project consists of the daily monitoring of fishing data to find out if there is any variation in fishing production during the exploration activities of OGX. The company is responsible for data collection and analysis in the municipalities of Maricá and Niterói.

Sub-project for Monitoring Sardine Population

The real state of the sardine population is being evaluated by OGX in partnership with the University of Rio Grande (FURG) and IBAMA. Samples are being collected in the Campos and Santos Basins by the FURG vessel  Atlântico Sul.

Environmental Sub-project for Monitoring Wind and Current Data

Wind data are collected on a daily basis. For analysis of ocean currents, drifting buoys are released to estimate their speed and direction. The analyses will be supplemented with data from satellite images, and the data will be available for research projects.

Individual Emergency Plan (“PEI”)

The PEI organizes strategies and resources for controlling possible oil leaks at sea. The Campos Captain, the Casey Chouest, the Thor Supplier, the Santos Supplier and the Fast Tender vessels are part of the resources used to control this type of emergency, since they are fitted with equipment for the containment and gathering of oil at sea. The Organizational Emergency Structure (“EOR”) for the PEI is made up of professionals qualified to meet contingencies, who are trained in regular simulated exercises in readiness for response to possible accidents involving leakage of oil at sea.
