With the declaration of commerciality of the Gavião Real and Gavião Azul fields already submitted to the ANP, OGX’s production of natural gas in the Parnaíba Basin will begin in the second half of 2012. Investments in exploration and production development for this gas reserve mark an important milestone in creating synergy between OGX and MPX.

OGX's gas production will be used at the thermoelectric power stations which MPX will build close to the gas fields. MPX already has its Installation License for two thermal power stations, with a generation capacity of 4 thousand MW. Gross gas production should reach 6 million cubic meters of natural gas per day by 2013. This is equivalent to doubling the current production volume of onshore natural gas in Brazil.

In February this year, was initiated the construction phase of the Gas Treatment Unit in the Parnaíba Basin, which will process the gas produced to remove the liquid in it, filter and heat the product and bring it to the required specifications. From this unit a gas pipeline will deliver the ready processed gas to MPX Parnaíba Thermoelectric Unit (TEU).
