Located in shallow waters in the Campos Basin – water depth of only 130 meters - at about 80 km from the coast of Rio de Janeiro, OGX-26, the first production well in the Waimea accumulation, combines all the features expected of OGX’s high profitability assets, with good quality oil and high production index.
To ensure maximum oil recovery from the reservoir, OGX opted for drilling a horizontal well, OGX-26, approximately 1 km in length, which extends the drainage area and multiplies the production index compared with a vertical well – where the drainage area is limited to a few dozen meters of drilling. A system of selective acidification was also used, best fitted to the reservoir of fractured carbonate rock, which is a characteristic of this accumulation. Two other similar horizontal wells are also being drilled and will be concluded in early 2012.
Drill-stem test performed at this well indicated production potential of up to 40 thousand barrels per day of 20° API oil. OGX started in January 2012 an Extended Well Test in Waimea, to obtain more information about the reservoir, which should produce up to 20 thousand barrels/day. The extended well-test will be followed by the production development phase, which will feature 2 more production wells, in addition to the existing one, and two water injection wells, all connected to FPSO OSX-1.
Waimea’s first production well is ready, with all the equipment installed for production start up, including the FPSO OSX-1.
